• At the 18th ASSA Board Meeting on 4 September 2006, Datuk Azlan Zainol, Chief Executive Officer of Employees Provident Fund, Malaysia, was confirmed as Chairman of ASSA for the next term, after Mr Khamphouang Inthaseng, Director General of SSO-Lao, had successfully completed his tenure as ASSA Chairman. Highlights of the 2 events:

Delegates from the 11 ASSA member institutions attended the Pre-ASSA Board Meeting Seminar and the 16th ASSA Board Meeting hosted by the SSO-Lao PDR. Representatives from Australia, India, ISSA and ILO were also present as observers.

Delegates from the 9 ASSA member institutions participated in the Technical Meeting for the ASSA Secretariat, hosted by the Employees Provident Fund Social Security Training Institute (ESSET).

Significant matters discussed included:

• Editing of the Memorandum of Agreement
  
• Compilation of ASSA Documentation
  
• Initial Stages of a Comparative Study
  
• Preparation of 16th ASSA Board Meeting in Lao PDR

Delegates from the ASSA member institutions of the ASEAN countries attended the pre-ASSA Board Meeting Seminar (Theme: Investment Strategy and Customer Satisfaction Strategy) and the 10th ASSA Board Meeting hosted by Vietnam Social Security. At the 10th ASSA Board Meeting, member institutions shared about their "Good Practices" articles on "Customer-focused Service Delivery". Dr Nguyen Huy Ban, Director General of VSS, was confirmed as Chairman of ASSA for the next term, after Mr Somchai Wattana, Secretary General of Social Security Office, Thailand had successfully completed his tenure as ASSA Chairman. In addition, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation from the Philippines was officially admitted as a member of ASSA at this meeting.

A total of 30 delegates attended the pre-ASSA Board Meeting Seminar and the 9th ASSA Board Meeting. The delegates were from the nine member institutions of seven ASEAN countries. The theme of the pre-ASSA Board Meeting Seminar was "Investment of Social Security Funds - Opportunities and Challenges in the New Economy". At the 9th ASSA Board Meeting, "Good Practices" articles based on the theme of "Customer-focused Service Delivery" were presented by the various member institutions.

A total of 26 delegates from all ASSA member institutions attended the 8th ASSA Board Meeting. The delegates were from nine member institutions of seven ASEAN countries. "Good Practices" articles featuring member institutions' developments and improvements to their customer service were presented.

At this meeting, Employees Trust Fund from Brunei was officially admitted as a member institution of ASSA. The Board also agreed that all ASSA member institutions would share with one another on some of their "Good Practices".

At the 1st ASSA Board Meeting, Prof. Dr. Awaloedin Djamin (Indonesian National Social Security Association) was elected as the first ASSA Chairman and Tan Sri. Sallehuddin bin Mohamed (Employees Provident Fund, Malaysia) was elected as the Vice-Chairman of ASSA.
